Al Hagayza Water Purification Plant Expansions

Dakahliya, Egypt | 2010

Project Description.

The plant was initially established in 1990, East of the Delta region, to provide drinking water to Al Hagayza Village Cluster composed of the main village and its surrounding hamlets.

The main issue arising between 2000 and 2009 was that many villages were constructed without adequate infrastructure which resulted in water shortage for the growing population.

Therefore, the purpose of this project was increasing the plant’s production capacity from 90 L/s to 210 L/s in order to meet the rising demand of drinking water demand and eliminate the problem of low pressures at the end of existing pipelines.

Scope of Project.

The project was awarded via tendering process and included the construction of flocculation basins, filtration tanks and an effluent tank in addition to connecting the newer stage to the existing stage.

One of the challenges faced during this project was heavy equipment getting stuck in deep mud when accessing site due to surrounding land being irrigated by flooding methods, one of the most ancient methods still used up to this day.

We overcame these limitations by using manual equipment and labour-based piling techniques to reach required depths for concrete foundations.
